“Good boy Bud! You’re such a good boy!” I murmured softly, as his wings began to flap,
Slowly, ever-so-slowly, at first the rhythm of his breathing set their pace,
Wetness stung my eyes, as he pushed himself against me to be close,
His velvet muzzle, silky cheeks, and noble head were what my face was resting on,
My arms were wrapped around him, and my legs were holding him from underneath,
He was my boy, my baby boy, and now the time had come for him to leave this world,
At least in manners physical, although a sparkling animation moved to rise,
Moved to rise into my eyes beneath the dazzle of the scintillating skies,
Swirling streams of color, effervescent, luminescent, all aglow,
Formed his shape, a new creation; higher, stronger, from where spirit creatures flow,
His heart was slowing down, my buddy’s body was about to go to sleep,
Go to sleep forever, returning to the earth, where truth and goodness runs so deep,
His wings were speeding up, and as he kissed my cheek and took his final breath,
He flew into my heart, alive and sparkling, as his body slumped in death,
His spirit presence in me was strong and vibrant, so much stronger than before,
He had left his tired body, become a part of me, for today and evermore,
He had left his tired body, become a part of me, for today and evermore.
