As I sit quietly in my front row seat to the sunrise, noticing the majestic, thunderous waves pounding the shoreline; rocking my house like tiny earth tremors or giant earth orgasms; I realize that I am part of them and they of me. As showers fall, roosters crow, doves coo, mina birds squawk, and lingering kokis chirp; accompanied by the whispering fragrances of gardenia, jasmine, and exora; harmonized by palpable ocean breezes, tantalizing rain forest energies, and the sacred light shining through the early morning sun; I recognize, at once, that we are one. As your presence blossoms into my awareness, like a fire flower of love and longing, wrapping petals all around me in the dawn; I feel connected, sense your heart, and crave your sensual caress like we belong.
Gauging Connections
Like a three dimensional spider web, energy strands extend outward from our core to all people, places, and things in the universe; connecting us, and enabling the exchange of energy and information. The stronger the bond, the thicker the strand, and the greater the volume of energy and information that can be transferred (and the more easily it can be perceived). Think of various gauges of copper wire, and how more current can be carried across a thicker cable. Mother’s intuition is an example of a strong bond with a thicker energy strand that transfers large amounts of information and is more easily recognized. I once had a friend here on the Big Island of Hawaii whose daughter was traveling in Europe, and she not only sensed that her daughter was in danger in Paris, but she “saw” the actual scene as it unfolded. She then contacted her daughter to wire funds, and her intuition was confirmed. This intuitive process occurs naturally within all of us. Many of us are not aware of it, or we don’t know how to interpret it if we are. For some of us, it is a way of life, and the most valued source of truth and information.
When accessing it, we are tapping into the naked truth. We are connecting with the universal energy system, logging on to the cosmic Ethernet, and through this connection with higher consciousness, its truth and light. When, through this connection, we are able to access the words, images, feelings, and/or movement of someone close to us, what we share with them is enlightened, real, and bright. It is perfect. It needs no clarification, context, or insight. It is natural, and we know it, day or night.
Distinguishing Intuition from Issues and Desires
One thing we must be careful of is mistaking our issue-based interpretations or strong desires for intuition. If we are not yet able to truly clear our mind of such things, which requires overcoming issues and recognizing the difference between desire and higher consciousness; then we may believe what we are perceiving is intuition when it is not. For example, if we have an unresolved issue of relationship insecurity, if we sense that our partner is cheating on us or searching for our replacement; then what we are picking up on could be our insecurity-based fears of losing them, not our intuition. If we are generally highly intuitive, and if we can usually rely on this; then it can seem confusing to us, and we may believe that we are right. The greater the vulnerability, the more likely we will mistake issues for intuition if we have them (unresolved issues). Or, if we really, really want someone, in spite of a sea of red flags; then we might confuse our desire for intuition. When such issues or desires interact with the intuitive process, it may be the mind, not our higher consciousness, that we are sensing. We may need a spiritual teacher or higher consciousness counselor to help us until we are able to clearly sort out such things and “see” the truth.
Logging On
All of us have experienced forms of intuition, and nearly everyone can remember some of these elevated moments, if they try. For some they came with trauma, for others great joy, and for some they were as random as the raindrops. We were all born purely intuitive, and shared this awareness until our minds began “developing” around concrete, categorizable phenomena (letters, numbers, colors, etc.). Since we are all interconnected and one, through our linkage to and unity with universal consciousness; we all share these abilities, whether we are aware of them or not. When within a few feet of someone, almost anyone can sense information, emotion, and dynamic energies of another person through the overlapping human energy systems. We may not know whether what we are experiencing is our own thoughts and emotions, or those of the other person. In fact, some intimate partners become so connected and enmeshed that they are unable to tell what belongs to whom. They think each others’ thoughts and feel each others’ feelings; without knowing whose is whose. But this is not intuition, and I digress.
So what I mean by intuition is a psychic connection with a person, place, or thing, accessed through our awareness of universal consciousness, resulting in telepathic or clairvoyant exchanges. For me, it does not include the sharing of human energy systems experienced through close proximity. I understand it as the quantum physics of connecting through the universal energy system, rather than the physics of sharing through the human energy system (spiritual rather than physical).
So in order to log on, the first step is to realize that we are already logged on, and have always been. Until it becomes as natural as breathing, things like breathing meditation, mindfulness, relaxation training, and spending time in nature may increase our awareness of these more subtle phenomena. Although inanimate objects and places can also be perceived in this way, most people seem to prefer connecting with other humans or animals; and being more aware of the timing, occurrence, and nature of things. We share such profoundly powerful bonds with some people or pets that it is difficult not to notice. These are good starting points, and make practicing easier.
Practicing
If you have a friend with whom you share a strong bond, one who is also interested in rediscovering these natural skills; then they would make an excellent practice partner. You can practice sending, receiving, or both. Some people send information clearly and strongly, but have a hard time receiving it. Others have the reverse tendency. Some people enjoy making a game of it, like a quiz, and practice sending finite information like colors, numbers, specific foods, animals, etc. There is no single method that is better or worse, and most people rediscover and develop these skills in unique and different ways; so the important thing is to just get started, and have fun doing it! At first, it can be fun to be on the phone with someone, perhaps who is in a different city or state, and practice sending and receiving information. When we do it this way we can obtain fairly immediate feedback regarding our accuracy. I usually sense words, images, feelings, or movement; and can then follow it to a more focused, or specific place. It is a little bit like noticing a window, and then moving closer to look more directly through it. Or hearing a little music and a lot of static on a radio station, and then being able to tune it in more clearly. After practicing for years, we will probably encounter others with whom we immediately and strongly connect with. Right now I have three friends I have a palpable connection with, and with whom I share intuitive communications regularly. We usually text back and forth to confirm that we were picking up on each others’ “messages.” When we share these connections with more than one person, sometimes the initial challenge is identifying who we are picking up on. Sometimes it is crystal clear, but sometimes it isn’t. So we can accept the information coming in, make as much sense of it as possible, and then contact the prospective senders to confirm if needed. When we learn to “tune in” to the information source, we can usually figure these things out pretty easily. We will also be able to do this with random people, tuning in to their thoughts and emotions, and should do this with dignity, respect, and responsibility. Occasionally we might meet someone who feels so much like a part of us that we literally cannot tell where we stop and they begin. This could happen with friends, children, and intimate partners. When it occurs within the context of a romantic love relationship, it could exceed our wildest fantasies, dreams, and desires.
In Lak’Ech Connections
In Lak’Ech Ala K’in, or In Lak’ech, is a Mayan concept which means “I am another you” or “You are another me.” As a greeting, it is similar to the East Indian Namaste, rich with meanings such as “Reverence to you,” “I bow to you,” or “The light in me honors the light in you.” Reflecting the interconnectedness of all things, In Lak’ech can also be spoken to greet the morning sun, for the appreciation of water, or any other element or sentient being existing in our world. When applied to romantic relationships, it denotes that supernatural someone who, when we meet them, we realize that we have found our way home. If we are blessed to share such a connection with another, then they, too, would make an exceptional practice partner.
What things have best helped you tap into this natural ability? What obstacles have you encountered, and how have you overcome them? What are some of the ways you benefit from intuition in your day-to-day life?
