When despair surrounds you, when it hurts so bad; when the pain seems too much, when you feel so sad; the sun will rise, the moon will fall, and the rainbow will paint truth upon us all. Most of us feel overwhelmed from time to time. The “time to time” nature of such things may be the key that unlocks those situationally materializing mind cuffs that attach us to fear, unhappiness, self doubt, and stress. Most who traverse such lugubrious latitudes also travel paths of empowerment, happiness, confidence, and peace. Remember this, write it in your journaling app, or tattoo it on the manacles of your mind. If we feel fear and empowerment, happiness and unhappiness, self doubt and confidence, as well as stress and peace; then, no matter how disconcerting our unwelcome visitors may seem; we know we can ask them to leave, the pain is temporary, there is beauty and happiness all around us, and that relief is only a hopeful thought away. We create our thoughts, emotions, and interpretations of life; and we can create different ones.
Negative emotions (lower vibrational) cause us to temporarily forget most of what we know. When experiencing them, our brain (on a physiological level) shifts into survival mode; limiting the range of thought, possibilities, and courses of action to those related to self preservation. In other words, if we usually have access to a repertoire of one million thoughts, spanning a broad range from beauty and bliss to bummer and butt heads; when we experience negative emotions, this range might narrow to one hundred thoughts, all related to protecting ourselves from a threat. Everything else we know is temporarily forgotten, while we are cuffed to the illusion that we are in danger. Such alarming thoughts generate more negative emotions, which give birth to more alarming thoughts; eventually compelling us to take protective action by fighting (verbally, attitudinal or physically), running away (emotionally detaching, withdrawing, or literally leaving), or freezing (disappearing within one’s self, becoming quiet, or tuning out the world).
Positive emotions (higher vibrational) shift the brain out of survival mode, restoring access to our full range of thought; because the brain knows that if we are feeling happy we cannot be under threat. When we regain access to our memories, knowledge, and experiences; we realize that much of what we thought, felt, and did while down in the dumps was irrational. During the experience, however, it feels distressingly real. This is why we need to learn how to elevate the vibration of our consciousness, and how not to slip back in the grip of the mind made shackles.
Raise the vibration of your thought by meditating, working out, making daily gratitude lists, helping others, genuinely smiling, practicing relevant yoga, focusing on your strengths, reflecting upon your accomplishments, breathing, improving your nutrition, acceptance, detachment, non-judgment, music, poetry, art, pets, gardening, cooking, baking, herbal medicine, sleeping enough, and more. Elevate your consciousness, and live a healthier, higher, happier life by practicing these things each day. Continuous daily practice is required.
